Lehigh Valley Passenger Station

Sayre Historical Society Museum
In 1881, the Lehigh Valley Railroad Passenger Station was build on South Lehigh Avenue. The Station was built out of red brick in the Queen Ann style featuring large overhangs for passenger protection. The original design of the station included: a ticket booth (which was rediscovered during renovations for the Sayre Historical Society Museum), separate waiting rooms for men and women, baggage area, and restaurant, all on the first level. The second level con- sisted of office space along with a fireproof saferoom.
In 2022, the Sayre Historical Society signed a 99 -year lease with the Sayre Borough for the use of the passenger station as the Sayre Historical Society Museum. After extensive renovations, the passenger station has been transformed back to its former glory to house the treasures of Sayre. The first level features permanent displays, gift shop, admission area, rest room along with elevator access to the second level. The second level includes: rotating exhibit rooms, library, rest room, meeting and office space, along with archive storage. Plus, the fireproof saferoom is in continuous use to protect some very precious Sayre Historical Society Museum artifacts.
