Churches of Sayre

Church_Redeemer
Church of the Redeemer is located on the corner of Park Avenue and South Wilbur Avenue. Construction began in 1888 and consecrated in 1889.

First Presbyterian Church on South Elmer Avenue was erected in 1893 next to the Sayre Threatre.

Sayre Christian Church is located on the corner of Keystone Avenue and Lincoln Street. The church construction was completed in 1889.

This was original the Methodist Episcopal Church completed in 1883. In 1916, the church was sold and demolished.

In 1916, construction began on a new Methodist Episcopal Church located on North Elmer Ave and West Lockhart Street. Today it is home to the Crossroads Church.

First Baptist Church can be found on the corners of North Elmer Avenue and Stevenson Street. The church charter was established in 1886.

The First Church of God is located on North Keystone Avenue. The current building was debuted in 1972.

Church_Epipany
Church of the Epiphany was constructed in 1888. The Roman Catholic church was located on North Elmer Avenue. In 1929, the church was converted into a Catholic school, Epiphany School.

In 1919, the New Church of the Epiphany opened their doors. The cost to erect the new church was about $70,000. Church of the Epiphany is located on South Elmer Avenue.

Church_SalvationArmy
Sayre Salvation Army Corps was in the former St. John’s Lutheran Church located on South Elmer Avenue. The Salvation Army Corps established their residency at this facility in 1965. Today, the building remains however, no longer a building of worship.

The Church of Christ located on the corner of Madison Street and South Wilbur Avenue. Construction began in 1952 for $30,000. Completed in 1953. The church was previously known as the Pilgrim Holiness Church.

Church_WheelockMemorialChapel
The Wheelock Memorial Chapel was built in 1904 by a Mrs. Angel assisted by some Wheelock heirs, as a memorial to their parents who lived and died at that site. Costing about $2,500.00 and with a seating capacity of around 225, it was used by the Methodist Church and later, the Salvation Army. When it was later destroyed by fire, it housed the Sayre American Legion.

Seventh-Day Adventist Church was constructed in 1915, and located on corner of Olive and Harrison Streets. Eventually the congregation would relocate to a different facility on Wilawanna Road, Sayre.
