Footbridge Bridge

In downtown Sayre, a pedestrian bridge was erected 1896. The Footbridge spanned over the Lehigh Valley Railroad Yards. It was over 400-foot long, spanned 17 railroad tracks, and was constructed of steel with a wood deck. The bridge was designed to cross from downtown Sayre to the East side safely.

Due to the lack of use and poor repair, the Footbridge was taken down in 1987.

The original 1896 carved stone was relocated to the Howard Elmer Park.

Today on Lockhart Street, a mural of the Footbridge is located on the side of the Blackburn 1897 building. The mural was painted by Sayre resident, Frank Evans along with his family.
